We are devoted to doing great science. But, even the best research only goes so far with meaningful communication and two-way dialogue. Tracey Holloway is a leader in science communication, and our whole team is active in connecting with students, stakeholders, and the public on air, energy and more. 

Science Communication

  • Public talks, including the 2018 American Meteorological Society Core Science Keynote and the UCAR Walter Orr Roberts Distinguished Lecture at the CU-Boulder Conference on World Affairs. 

  • Track record of leadership, including the AAAS Leshner Leadership Fellowship and the 2011 Stanford University Leopold Leadership Fellowship.

 

Network Development

  • Team lead for the NASA Health and Air Quality Applied Sciences Team (HAQAST). This group of thirteen air quality and public health scientists use NASA satellite data to help solve real-world public health and air quality problems, and work all around the world on issues from wildfire smoke to diesel emissions.

  • Co-founder and first President of the Earth Science Women's Network (ESWN), an organization dedicated to career development, peer mentoring and community building for women in the geosciences. ESWN has more than 3,000 members worldwide, spanning large research universities, small liberal-arts colleges, government agencies, and research organizations in the U.S. and more than 60 countries.

  • Elected as a member of the National Academy of Medicine (2022).

 

Teaching and Mentoring

  • 20 years experience as a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, teaching courses in air quality, energy, and sustainability. Awarded the 2018 UW-Madison Undergraduate Research Student Mentoring Award

  • Awarded the MIT C3E (Clean Energy Education & Empowerment Awards) award in Education and Mentoring, and the Council on Undergraduate Research in the Geosciences (GeoCUR) Undergraduate Research Mentor Award.
